' Text Appearing After Image: THE ASSASSINATION OF PRBSIDENT LINCOLN. 26 second son of the Secretary, who attempted to arrest him, but was struck on thehead with a billy, but not seriously injured. At this late hour I am informed by the Secretarys physician that no arterieshave been struck, and that the Secretary will recover. General Grant fortunately left for the North this afternoon, and, doubtless byhis absence, has escaped the machinations of conspirators. Secretaries Stanton and Wells also escaped the plot, as well as the remainingmembers of the Cabinet. These are the briefest details of this tragic night. One arrest was made in thetheatre of a man who said he knew all about the plot, but a^ yet the assassinshave not been arrested. It is believed that a deep conspiracy is on foot to a-ssas-sinate the remaining leading members of the Government, It is now 12.30, and the excitement has not abated in the least; crowds areeverywhere and the whole city is in the strcats. j^lSrOTHER A.OCOUiSrT.
