English: The Golden Gate Bridge, with San Francisco in the background, from a viewpoint in Marin County. The Golden Gate Bridge crosses the opening from the Pacific Ocean to San Francisco Bay, and connects San Francisco with Marin County.
The bridge was opened in May 1937. The main span is 4,200 ft (1,280 m), and the total length is 8,981 ft (2,737 m). The towers are 746 ft (227 m) high. The bridge is 220 ft (67 m) above the water in the center. |
