Dayre and Amy Rardin serve as head writers and Sydney Freeland leads the directing team.

Chafa [1.01] edit

William Lopez: I found out who cut the brakes. They're taken care of.
Chula: Oh, and you think that makes me feel better? That another family is now destroyed?
William Lopez: It makes me feel better.

Wilson Fisk: I'm growing concerned, Maya. You're not alone. We all mourn your father. I understand your rage.
Maya: Do you?
Fisk: My father was killed also. When I was twelve years old. The pain that I felt in the wake of that moment is something I've never felt again since. Let me help you release this rage in, in a more constructive way.
Maya: How?
Fisk: A job. You have greatness in you. Take your hurt. Your loss. Take your pain. Make it into something useful!

Henry Lopez: Gretchen's our resident mortician.
Maya: You're an undertaker?
Henry: If you want a body fixed... if you want a body gone... She's the person you call.
Maya: You want me fixed or gone?
Henry: Let's start with "fixed".

Henry: I won't bring a war here, to the people I love, and who love you. Why are you doing this?
Maya: Kingpin had his run. It's time for a queen.

Lowak [1.02] edit

Maya: I have a strategy. It's playing out the way I planned.
Henry: People will die.
Maya: I say when it starts. I say when it stops. That's not chaos. That's power.
Henry: You sound like Fisk.
Maya: Are you with me or against me?
Henry: All I know is, I gotta figure out how to clean your mess. Just lay low. You seem to have forgotten that people close to you are the one who get hurt.
Maya: And who's that, exactly?

Tuklo [1.03] edit

Tuklo: They will see me. Not as they think I should be. They will see me as I am.

Skully: You know, you two are exactly alike.
Chula: We are not alike. Everything I've done has been to protect my family, no matter how much it hurt.
Skully: You lost your daughter. Why don't you swallow your pride before you lose your granddaughter, too?
Chula: I can't talk to her now. I got nothing to say.
Skully: Well maybe you shouldn't talk to her. Maybe you should just listen for once.

Maya: Look, I'm just here for work stuff. No sense disrupting your life if I'm not gonna be here long.
Bonnie: Bullshit. You can't even look me in the eye. I waited for you. Every night, for years. And you still couldn't be bothered to send one message.
Maya: We drifted apart. It happens.
Bonnie: We didn't drift. All those emails, texts. Nothing ever came back. You didn't text me back after your dad died. I would have been there.

Skully: Now, you know I don't get in the family business since your grandmother and I... not together. No more. But you won't go see her.
Maya: She doesn't wanna see me.
Skully: Her heart was broken when you left. She left this place like it was. Like a museum.
Maya: She could've reached out any time.
Skully: I guess we all do things we wish were different.

Taloa [1.04] edit

Fisk: It hurts that you were so ready to believe the worst. You raised a hand to me in violence.
Maya: Violence was always our language.

Maya: He's handing me "queenpin".
Henry: Please tell me you're not that stupid.
Maya: Just because you don't think I can--
Henry: I know you can! That's what scares me!

Biscuits: Chula always says "There's nothing too broke to fix. If you want it bad enough, don't throw it away."

Fisk: I suspect you've come to kill me. Again. I can't remember a time when I haven't loved you like a daughter. We only had each other, don't you remember?
Maya: My memories are a lie. A child's fantasy that turned a monster into a hero.
Fisk: "A monster"? You knew what you were part of at every turn. All the people you killed for me, did you plead for their lives? I ask you... who's the monster?

Fisk: I know now that I failed you. The same as my father failed me. I keep this with me. It's to remind myself of where I come from, and what I had to do to get there. [Fisk presents the hammer he beat his father to death with.] My father felt stronger when he beat my mother, until I got strong enough to stop him with that.
Maya: You... killed him?
Fisk: I killed him to be free. To move forward in my life. So, enough games! [he hands her the hammer] Here. Free yourself. Go ahead. Free me!

Fisk: [referencing his father in a deleted scene] If you feel half of what I felt for him, then I've become what I hate.

Maya [1.05] edit

Taloa: In the old days, the Choctaw called it the Biskinik. The Choctaw would tell the bird what to say, and it would tap out messages on the trees, warning when enemies approached.

Fisk: Your necklace. It's American Sign Language. It says "I love you".
Chula: Oh! You sign?
Fisk: I try, for my niece.
Chula: Oh, I learn for my daughter. She's passed on now.
Fisk: Yes, I've lost someone who I loved. It's the kind of pain you never quite get over.

Taloa: You aren't alone. All of us that came before are a part of you. Because we echo through you. Echo.

Maya: They have nothing to do with this! They're in my blood, in my heart. I'm a part of them, and they're a part of me. I'm their legacy. Not yours...
Fisk: Good. Now I know how much it will hurt you when I kill the rest of your family! Just like I killed your father!

[In Wilson's mind, Maya and Fisk are transported back to the night Fisk killed his father.]
Maya: Don't listen anymore. Let go of the pain. Let go of the anger. You are my uncle. Shut him out!
Fisk: No! No! I am not who you want me to be!
