The rules are simple. At least that's how my brother sees it. One, avoid the infected at all costs. Their breath is highly contagious. Two, disinfect anything they've touched in the last 24 hours. Three, the sick are already dead, they can't be saved. You break the rules, you die. You follow them, you live. Maybe.

And we wouldn't want to break any rules, right? He said, drinking his beer as he drove the stolen Mercedes ridiculously over the speed limit. And look- no hands!
Look around you. We lost power two weeks ago. We sucked the town dry of gas just to run the generators. There's nothing left... Sometimes, choosing life is just choosing a more painful form of death.
Brian used to love this place. The hotel, the beach- they still look exactly the same. But they're just places now. I don't know what'll happen next. I don't know how long I'll live. But I know I will be alone.

  • [On being 'chosen' as immune] I'm here and they're not.

  • [In a mock narration] Brian Green steps up to the tee. He needs a hole-in-one here to get to the Masters, but he's really worried about his people finding out that he's GAY! [Brian misses]Dude, my advice to you is to put the club down, wait 10 minutes... just never pick it up again.
  • I drive, and wait for a storm to come and wash us all away. But it doesn't. It's a beautiful day. And it shouldn't be a beautiful day. I wait... but nothing happens to me. And for the first time, I feel like I am alone in the world. We made it. Two strangers with nothing left to say. Brian used to love this place. The hotel, the beach- they still look exactly the same. But they're just places now. I don't know what'll happen next. I don't know how long I'll live. But I know I will be alone.

Kate

  • [Danny has just found out Bobby is infected, and is viewing a memorial at a gas station] Do you want to end up like them? We will if she stays.

Doctor

  • A serum? Yes, we had a serum. For three days it stabilized the patients; a few actually improved. Three days. That's the best we could do.
  • Look around you. We lost power two weeks ago. We sucked the town dry of gas just to run the generators. There's nothing left... Sometimes, choosing life is just choosing a more painful form of death.

Laura Merkin

edit
  • I don't know if there's anybody listening... but, my generator is dying. So, if there is someone out there, this my last call. This is Laura Merkin, last survivor of Corpus Christi, Texas, saying goodbye.

Dialogue

[Bobby, Brian's girlfriend, has been infected by Frank's daughter Jodie; Brian stops before leaving an abandoned gas station]
Brian: Get out. I said get out.
Bobby: I'll get in the back.
Brian: That's not what I said.
Bobby: Brian, please let me stay. [Brian gets out and forces her out of the Suburban] Brian, please don't! Brian, do not do this!
Brian: There's a town down that road.
Bobby: These are just bruises! I have been bouncing around in the back of that stupid car for days-
Brian: I'm sure there's plenty of water in town, but here's half a gallon.
Bobby: Of course I have bruises, but I am fine! I love you.
Brian: If you ration it, it should last you a few days.
Bobby: You love me, don't you?
Brian: The same goes for the food.
Bobby: Brian, I'll wear a mask. I didn't know-
Brian Green: The HELL YOU DIDN'T KNOW! Don't you DO that! DON'T YOU LIE TO ME!
Bobby: I wasn't sure.
Brian: When you get to town, you find a comfortable place, you know, with a good bed. And get yourself a blanket, even if it feels hot now. And lots of water. Do it before you're too weak.
Bobby: Brian-
Bobby: I warned you about the girl. I told you to stay away from her; why the hell couldn't you have listened to me.

[After staging a scene to trick two survivors out of their gas, Brian opened fire when the women tried to drive away, killing both of them]
Danny: You don't talk to me. You hear me? You don't tell me what to do! You don't walk away from me, you son of a bitch, I'm talking to you!
Brian: I am talking to you, and I'm telling you what to do, you self-righteous fuck! It must be nice, sitting on the sidelines while your dumb brother wades in shit for you. Somebody had to do it. Was it gonna be you, Danny?
Danny: You fucking killed them!
Brian: You remember our last day at home? It wasn't you who went up to Mom and Dad's room to get his gun, was it? It wasn't you! It wasn't you, who had to go up there and lie, and tell 'em not to worry, that you'd be back real soon!
Danny: They were alive? Alive?
Brian: You knew they were.
Danny: They were? You told me-
Brian: What. You wanted. To hear.
Danny: You asshole!
Brian: I'm an asshole for what, Danny? Asshole for what? Letting you walk by with a clean conscience? Huh? Well, that's what you like, Danny! You remember Bobby? Huh? You remember Bobby? I was the one who had to drag her out of the car while you just sat there, watching me do it! [silence] Bobby was right. You got all the brains.

[Danny and Kate attempt to leave Brian, who is now infected, only to find he has taken the Suburban's keys]
Danny: I need those keys, Brian.
Brian: Sure. And I need a ride.
Danny: You know I can't.
Brian: Come on. The ocean, you and me, one more time. You remember how it was. Hittin' those waves before everything turned to shit.
Danny: Just give me those keys.
Brian: You want 'em? Shoot me. Or take me with you.
[Danny backs up, raising a pistol]
Danny: Brian, don't do it.
Brian: I am not gonna end up like 'em, Danny. Rotting alive. Alone. You can't tell whether they're alive or dead.
Danny: Please, Brian, don't. It's what we decided.
Brian: I'm dying, Danny! I don't give a fuck about the rules!
Danny: You made them.
Brian: My little brother. I taught him everything he knows.
