  • Listen up, we have been boarded by four armed pirates. You know the drill. We stay hidden no matter what. I don't want any hostages. We stay locked down until help arrives. No one comes out until you hear the nonduress password, "suppertime." If the pirates find you, remember, you know the ship, they don't. Make them feel like they're in charge, but keep them away from the important things like the generator and the engine controls. Stick together and we'll be alright. Good luck.
  • You're not just a fisherman! You're not just a fisherman!
  • [to Muse] This is between us! I'm trying to straighten this out! Are you?! This is how you solve your problems?! You said you just wanted money! You said this was just business! Is this business?! Is this how you do business?!

UKMTO Officer: Maersk Alabama, you should alert your crew, get your fire hoses ready. Chances are they're just fishermen.
Captain Phillips: They're not here to fish.

Muse: Captain, relax. Nobody get hurts, no Al-Qaeda here. Just business. We want money. When we get paid, everything gonna be okay. The ship, where from?
Captain Phillips: The ship? Uh...America, it's an American ship.
[on hearing this the other pirates cheer]
Najee: Yes! Yes!
Muse: You, Yankee?
Captain Phillips: Me?
Muse: Yeah?
Captain Phillips: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yankee Irish, yeah.
Muse: [speaking to the pirates] [subtitled] From now on this one is called Irish, okay?
[The pirates laugh]
Muse: Okay, Irish. What items you carry?
Captain Phillips: What do you mean?
Muse: TV? Car?
Captain Phillips: Shipping TV, car? No, no, we just uh...we just got...
Muse: Dollars?
Captain Phillips: Uh..we do. Kenny?
Kenny: Yeah?
Captain Phillips: Kenny, what do we have in the safe? About what, thirty...thirty thousand dollars in the safe?
Kenny: Uh...yeah.
Captain Richard Phillips: You know, I think we have in the safe, we got thirty thousand dollars. It's yours.
Muse: Thirty thousand dollars? What am I? Do I look like a beggar?

Muse: Look at me.
Capt. Phillips: Sure.
Muse: Look at me.
Capt. Phillips: Sure.
Muse: I'm the captain now.

Captain Phillips: There's got to be something other than being a fisherman or kidnapping people.
Muse: Maybe in America, Irish, maybe in America.

Muse: I can't stop now, Irish.
Captain Phillips: The Navy is not gonna let you win.
Captain Phillips: They can't let you win.
Captain Phillips: They would rather sink this boat than let you get me Somalia.

Muse: Last year I took a Greek ship. 6 million dollars.
Captain Phillips: 6 million dollars? So what are you doing here?
Muse: Shut up, Irish. Too much talking.
Captain Phillips: The problem is not me talking. The problem is you not listening.

Muse: It was supposed to be easy. I take ship... ransom... nobody get hurt.
Captain Phillips: You had thirty thousand dollars. And a way to Somalia. It wasn't enough?
Muse: I got bosses. They got rules.
Captain Phillips: We all got bosses.
