Annie (1999 film)

1999 film directed by Rob Marshall

Annie is a 1999 American made-for-television musical-comedy-drama film from The Wonderful World of Disney in which a little orphan girl catches the attention of a kind man named Mr. Warbucks, who wants to adopt her, but the cruel, strict orphanage owner has a scheme to keep Annie - and her reward money. This was the first remake of the 1982 film Annie.

Directed by Rob Marshall. Written by Irene Mecchi, adapted from the 1977 Broadway musical of the same name by Charles Strouse, Martin Charnin, and Thomas Meehan, which in turn is based on the 1924 Little Orphan Annie comic strip by Harold Gray.

Dialogue edit

Lily: Oliver Warbucks... the millionaire?
Miss Hannigan: No, the billionaire, you dumb hotel.

Franklin D. Roosevelt: Annie, I have some news for you. Oliver. [shakes Oliver's hand, gives him a letter, then faces Annie] The FBI was able to trace your parents to David and Margaret Bennett.
Annie: You mean the Bennetts are my real parents? Where are they?
[Roosevelt looks at Oliver with a sullen gaze]
Oliver Warbucks: Annie, sorry. It seems that they passed away some time ago.
Annie: So, I really am an orphan.
[Annie walks towards the stairs]
Grace Farrell: Annie, are you alright?
[Annie turns around]
Annie: Yeah, I think so. See, I always knew that parents loved me and that they would come back for me someday. If they were alive.
[Annie has a teardrop in her eye and Grace hugs her]
Annie: I guess you have to look at the bright side. At least I'm not a Mudge.

Oliver: Annie, I love you as if you were my own little girl. I want to adopt you. Would you consider it?
Annie: It's just that I love my real mother and father so much. I don't know if I could love anybody else.
Oliver: I understand, but if you could find a place in your heart for me...

Annie: But I thought you hate your job.
Miss Agatha Hannigan: No, I love my job! It's kids I hate.

Lily: Ms. Lily St. Regis. I was named after the hotel.
Miss Hannigan: Which floor?

[Hannigan returns to her office with a dirty toothbrush]
Miss Hannigan: OK, Missy. I don't ever want you to do this again. So you're going to scrub every inch of this dump with this. Glad you're back?
Annie: Yes, Miss Hannigan.
[Annie tries to take the toothbrush from Hannigan, but she pulls it back]
Miss Hannigan: Liar. What is 1 thing I always taught you?
Annie: Never tell a lie.
Miss Hannigan: Right.
Grace: Excuse me, I was told I'd find Miss Hannigan here?
Miss Hannigan: And who might you be?
Grace: I'm Grace Farrell, the Board of Orphans...
Miss Hannigan: Look, there was some sort of mistake. Somehow, Annie got into the laundry basket. One thing led to another and I had to call the cops. Please don't fire me!
Grace: I think you have me confused with somebody else.
Miss Hannigan: Oh, I get it. Uh, listen, honey, if you're peddling beauty products I don't need any.
Grace: Miss Hannigan, I don't peddle anything. I'm personal secretary to Oliver Warbucks.

Miss Hannigan: I don't know whatever I'd without you.
Annie: Scrub the floors yourself?

Oliver: Who are you?
Annie: I'm Annie.
