Not trying to start anything, but I'm just wondering: why did you revert my edits on Donald Trump? You didn't even give a reason, so I'm just curious. A50E10AN500ER (talk) 16:04, 15 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

@A50E10AN500ER Fake quotes are not allowed to be used in articles. Saroj Uprety (talk) 16:28, 15 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Saroj Uprety But that part of the article was specifically dedicated to fake quotes. A50E10AN500ER (talk) 17:28, 15 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

@152.26.199.24 This is a clear case of vandalism. Wikiquote is not just for you. Please do not revert the edit saying that you do not know its meaning. Saroj Uprety (talk) 12:46, 22 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Category:Punjabi people

edit

Hi Saroj

I am just curious: I noticed you have added many people to Category:Punjabi people. Take for example, Gulzarilal Nanda, where the article does not identify him as a person from the w:punjab.

How do you know who is from the Punjab? Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 05:28, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Ottawahitech Hello, I knew this from the English Wikipedia article and the categories used on them. Saroj Uprety (talk) 06:07, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Category question

edit

Hi Saroj,

I noticed that a while ago you moved items from Category:Mexican actresses into Category:Actresses from Mexico. Can you remember what the rationale was for this move? Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 14:03, 5 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Ottawahitech: Please see this. --Saroj Uprety (talk) 14:43, 6 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi again. I see wq has welcome back template created by User: Aphaia in 2005. I just discovered this by browsing one of the links on User:MonstrumVenandi page.
Just wondering: would you have preferred the template? Ottawahitech (talk) 15:55, 26 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
I am sure I would have preferred it, it's a really cool template. Saroj Uprety (talk) 16:15, 26 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

speedy deletion of user-page

edit

Hi Saroj,

I see you have just deleted the userpage of @User:Yel Martinez Seo as "(Speedy deletion: Spam, spambot page)". I also see that you did not delete User talk:Yel Martinez Seo, which I am grateful to you for doing. However, I wonder why you did not take the time to tell the User in advance that their page would be deleted and give them an opportunity to change it.

Can you please explain to the User (who says they want to contribute content):

  • What policy/ies you relied on when you deleted their user-page
  • Why you did not notify them ahead of time and give them an opportunity to conform with local policies
  • What steps they should take to become a valued part of this community.

Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 02:29, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

I deleted their user page because it was spam, which falls within the criteria for speedy deletion. Any user can be a valuable part of the community if they edits the project by following the policies properly. Saroj Uprety (talk) 11:13, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi Saroj, I'll take your word that the lengthy criteria for speedy deletion is a policy that specifies that "spam" pages can be deleted on sight at WQ. However, you did not address my next two questions. To which I will add two more:
  • Are there any other User-pages on WQ which you consider spam?
  • what is a spambot page?
Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 18:17, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
I didn't notify the user because the page was not nominated by me for deletion. Also the user is already blocked in 3 projects for the same reason. If a user page contains spam items then they are considered spam. For spambot page, see this. Saroj Uprety (talk) 17:08, 12 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1972 film)

edit

Hi Saroj,

I see you have deleted Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1972 film) in November of 2022, after you closed the deletion discussion. I wonder if the enwq user who created this page was ever notified on their talk-page of the intention to delete the page (both during the PROD and during the VFD) they created? Do you ever check if those who go To the trouble of trying to start a new page are notified that their creation may be doomed and given a chance to repair the problem whatever it may be?

I am also wondering why you were in such a hurry to close a discussion where only two users voted Delete, one of whom is currently not in good standing in the community. Surely this is not what consensus is? Ottawahitech (talk) 19:48, 7 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Ottawahitech: The page was created by an IP address that is currently blocked globally for cross wiki abuse. The IP also has a history of vandalism in the English Wikiquote. And the deletion discussion was going on for more than 5 months. IP cannot improve the page in any way under such circumstances. Once again, I did not nominate the article, so please ask the user who nominated the article why the page creator was not notified. Thanks. Saroj Uprety (talk) 04:12, 8 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Dronebogus, Thanks for popping in. You and I have talked about the topic a few months ago, surely you must have some idea about what is wrong here? Sanjay Dixit

edit

Hi Saroj Uprety,

I also made a post at User talk:Djm-leighpark on this matter.

the vote for deletion at Wikiquote:Votes for deletion/Sanjay Dixit was pretty complicated, with the person who nominated it for deletion changing his vote later then later recusing himself, towards the end of the closing period, and with changes made to the article later that referenced his notability and with the adding of quotes during the process. There were changes about his notability, and about the content of the article, towards the end of the voting period that were perhaps not reconsidered by the early voters. DJM agrees that there was an improvement in the representation of notability from the state at the initial nomination.

in the end you closed it as delete. Was this due to notability? Because with the changes during the voting period, as described above, it seems to me the consensus was not clear cut.

There was an additional concern by one user Markjoseph125 (talk · contributions) about twitter quotes and polemical quotes, but "Article needs improvement" is not one of the reasons to delete according to the Wikiquote:Deletion policy which lists it in the table called "Problems that don't require deletion". Also, it is my impression that the person Sanjay Dixit is known for being often quite polemical, see for example the links in the discussion such as this one [1] and the other links. If one would exclude polemical quotes from the Donald Trump article, and his twitter quotes, then it would seem strange. But nobody says the articles Donald Trump on social media and Donald Trump have to be deleted for this reason.

Because it does seem there was no strong consensus that the subject is not notable enough, would it be possible to recreate an article with some added links about his notability and a wider set of quotes? or would it be better to send it to DRV as DJM suggested, or perhaps relist it? Thank you. -- (talk) 17:51, 20 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

@: I deleted that page based on the voting. If you are not satisfied with the result, you can proceed for Wikiquote:Deletion review. Saroj Uprety (talk) 06:49, 21 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Ok, based on what i've seen at wikipedia I thought this could perhaps have been relisted or closed as no consensus, but I understand that wikiquote is different from wikipedia. I'm not in a hurry for this article and don't know if or when I will proceed for DRV. Thank you. -- (talk) 11:18, 21 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Your block of Pchauhan2001

edit

Hi Saroj:

On 30 January 2023 you blocked User: Pchauhan2001 after User:-Lemonaka posted a warning to their talkpage. You deletion says that Pchauhan2001 is a spambot. Just wondering why you didn't notify this user of their right to appeal your block?

BTW I am not connected to this user, just trying to figure out how blocking/unblocking is done here.

Hi Saroj,

Are you an admin on wikiquote? I assume you are , but your user page says only that you are an admin on wikidata. Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 14:41, 2 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Ottawahitech, I am the administrator of both projects mentioned, and I have disclosed about both on my user page. Thanks. Saroj (talk) 15:24, 2 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
All I can see is your Meta page. I do not see your enwq page. Ottawahitech (talk) 20:08, 2 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
