Hi. I reverted many quotations you added to Anonymous, since they looked like personal quotations by you or people you know. Please note that wikiquote is not the place for those. In addition, please stop creating half-baked articles with one quotation thrown in, no proper introduction or any semblance of real work. These kind of things do not help Wikiquote become a better resource for quotations, they only create more work for the regular editors who must check new additions, and delete or properly tag them. I have filled some of your pages with quotes, but it's really not that hard to find quotes. Please do the work yourself before creating these pages - or just add them to the list of requested pages, rather than creating empty pages. You are only creating more work for the editors who must check new additions, and delete or properly tag them. If you continue to add meaningless pages, you will be blocked from editing Wikiquote. • I just searched for "Dido quotes" on google to get the bare minimum quotes I added under "Attributed" then you just need to be sure you follow the template for a person. Hi. I've blocked you from editing for 24 hours after both UDScott and I asked you, repeatedly, to stop creating short articles with no introduction or a half-hearted written one, no categorization and one or no quotations. In 24 hours, you are welcome to come back and make edits which contribute to Wikiquote. Might I suggest helping with existing articles rather than creating new ones? If you continue with the pattern of contributing near-useless articles, you might be blocked for longer periods of time, and I doubt any of us wants that. I have blocked this anonymous user account for 1 week after another instance of adding useless data to Wikiquote (this time adding nonsense to Wikiquote:Requested entries). Bad "editer"

An editor using this IP address recently asked:

Jeff the guy that blocked me i need to know are you calling me a bad editer???

(I will arbitrarily assume this person is male, so I can more easily refer to "him". Apologies if this is not correct.) This question presumably arose because of a signature I added to his posting at User talk:UDScott#HELP!, since he failed to sign his own posting (a habit that he is apparently prone to do). I was, in fact, ironically referring to myself as a "apparently one of the 'real bad editers'" as a contrast to his comment on UDScott's page that "UD and Moshe are the only real good editers" [ sic ]. To me, misspelling the word "editor" is fairly succinct evidence that the phrase may apply to its author. I wasn't so much calling this editor bad as I was implicitly pointing out his habit of demonstrating this himself by his edits.

But if the question is being raised, I'll also point out that:

• Spelling is not his strong suit. (E.g., "Question it if its free", "death and unsattisfaction".)
• Nearly every one of his posts is stream-of-consciousness, without punctuation or sentence capitalization. (E.g., "Watson from Sherlock Holmes man the page is messy cleanup!".) If a person spoke this way, they wouldn't be understood. Writing clearly is very important in this medium.
• Some postings are so convoluted and fragmentary that one must struggle to discern the entire meaning of them. (E.g., "Jeff Kim talked and that quoted her in ANTM KIM should get credit like anyone else huh!".)
• From a wiki point of view, the apparent refusal to address the issues being brought up on this talk page suggests an uncooperative attitude that does not encourage one to think of someone as a "good editor".

I continue to believe that this editor has good intentions, but it's hard to work with someone who ignores suggestions, policies, practices, and outright pleas to work with the community. I hope that he will attempt to discuss specific questions with myself or other experienced wiki editors, follow suggestions, and read helpful information available to all editors in order to contribute useful material to Wikiquote.

I would also recommend he register a user name, which requires no personal information (the email address can be left blank), making a user name more private than an IP address which can be traced to a provider. (Besides, it's quite awkward communicating with someone through an IP address, because they change users frequently, and it's rude to other users of an IP address to accumulate discussions on its talk page.)

Above all, I would ask — PLEASE — that he sign his talk-page postings by adding four tildes (~~~~) to the end of his text, which Wikiquote will automatically convert to a signature with a timestamp. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 21:46, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Fit Finlay

I see that you created an article on Irish pro wrestler Dave "Fit" Finlay, but instead of finding some relatively meaningful quotes — e.g., the slogan-like ones cited in the Wikipedia article — you added what appears to be random statements (or possibly more made-up quotes, based on your other edits). I recommend that, if you wish to stop having your articles nominated for deletion, you do a little research to acquire some useful quotes. If a person is notable enough for Wikiquote, they almost always have a corresponding Wikipedia article, which often includes quotes. This is a very easy way to start your research.

Furthermore, people who create and edit articles have the responsibility to establish a quotee as notable, and this is usually and easily done by adding a link to the quotee's Wikipedia article. (You can edit the current version of this new article to see how I've done this. You might also read Wikiquote:How to edit a page for more information on links.) I hope you will make an effort to establish the legitimacy and interest of your subjects by doing these things, so that we can avoid nominating for deleteion articles that otherwise look like nonsense.

Please note that the Wikiquote community, including the editors who frequently nominate apparent nonsense and vanity articles for deletion, are not required to do this research for you. I've helped fill in some details on your articles, but there's only so much I'll do without any apparent effort on a user's part to learn policies and good practices before I'll stop bothering and just support article deletions. My philosophy, which is shared by many of the most active editors here, is that any article that holds so little interest for the community that even the creator can't be bothered to make it minimally useful, can be deleted without harm until someone who is willing to do some simple, basic work comes along and creates a decent article. It's not a question of getting off your back. If you continue to expect other people to do your work, don't be surprised if they stop doing it and just vote to delete the meaningless stub articles you create. What we're asking you to do is not only incredibly easy to do, it's something that a huge number of registered and anonymous editors do every day without being asked. Wikiquote exists for the collecting of notable quotations from people and works. Join Me in Death quote

An editor using this IP address recently created an article titled Would you die for me?, which actually contained a single 3-line (and apparently inaccurate) quote from the song "Join Me in Death", by Finnish band HIM. (Worse yet, neither the originally "quoted" lines nor the correct lines are the title, making this article title useless.) After a VFD for this article, this quote (corrected, based on a lyrics site) was merged with Lyrics, which is a Wikiquote theme article for pithy excerpts from songs mostly for groups and artists who do not have a suitable quote article themselves. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 04:55, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
