Description
Only one area on the outside of the melon exhibited "blood."
Public domain photo by James E. Scarborough en:August 28, en:2004 of a en:vampire watermelon. I bought the watermelon at the en:Raleigh, North Carolina, USA en:Farmers' market on en:August 24, en:2004 at about 17:20 (GMT-4) and stored it until en:August 28, en:2004 12:00 between 74 and 80 degrees Faharenheit (23-27 C). The "blood" on the outside felt like a thin film of sticky dirt and turned brownish red when wet on my hands from cutting the melon shortly after photographing it.
