Das Gemälde wurde 1812 durch König Friedrich Wilhelm III. bei der Ausstellung in der Berliner Akademie erworben. Es zierte damals das Königspalais in Berlin. Von 1843 bis 1906 hing es in der Villa Liegnitz in Zillerthal, der königlichen Sommerresidenz im schlesischen Riesengebirge. Dann gelangte es wieder zur königlichen Residenz in Berlin. Seit 1945 befindet es sich in den Potsdamer Sammlungen.[1]
