Dansk: Nylig skudt slædehund i Upernavik, Grønland. Bestanden af slædehunde i byen reguleres normalt ved skydning. Man bestiller byens hundeskyder, som så vidt jeg har forstået er en lokal myndighedsperson. Denne afliver hunden ved et riffelskud i hovedet. Det foregår åbent som en helt dagligdags hændelse. Efter aflivningen trækkes dyret ud til vejkanten, hvor den afhentes af renovationen. Den døde hund her er fotograferet ved en vejkant (tæt op ad andet skrald) umiddelbart efter aflivningen. Antallet af slædehunde i Upernavik er for nedadgående, idet man i det seneste år pga. ændrede temperatur- og strømforhold omkring byen ikke - eller kun i meget ringe grad har kunnet benytte slædehunde til transport og jagt om vinteren.
English: Recently shot sled dog in Upernavik, Greenland. The stock of sled dogs in Upernavik are regulated by shooting. A dog shooter is hired for the regulation - the dog is killed on-site by a rifle shot in the head in the open terrain. Afterwards the dog is drawn to a road side, whereafter it is refuse collected. This particular dog was photographed shortly after the shot was fired at a road side. The sled dog stock in Upernavik is decreasing these years. In the last few winters rising temperatures and changed currents in the sea around the island have made it impossible to use sled dogs for hunting and transportation. |
