Summary
DescriptionLightning from United 506 (7174936504).jpg
I am on a red-eye flight from Los Angeles to Boston. I had counted on getting a short sleep during the flight, but did not get it; this is why.
I managed to catch a very bright flash of lightning as the aircraft flew through an area of severe thunderstorms. Due to the considerable turbulence, I was unable to sleep at all.
Due to the stormy weather over the Great Lakes, this flight had taken a more southerly route, flying over Kansas and Missouri toward the Pennsylvania-Maryland border before cutting into Upstate New York. Even then severe thunderstorm cells developed along the new route, making for a very choppy flight. Based on flightaware.com tracking data, I estimate this photo's location as somewhere in Missouri.
