English: Folio from the Shahnama of Shah Tahmasp.
فارسی: فردوسی بزرگ به واسطه ظلم حاکم طوس از خانه و کاشانه خود جدا شده و به غزنی رفت. چون به کنار شهر رسید، در باغی فرود آمد. از اتفاقات روزگار، آن روز شعرای غزنوی، یعنی عنصری، فرخی و مسجدی به خلوت در باغ صحبت می داشتند. چون فردوسی خواست به ایشان نزدیک شود شعرا که وضع روستایانهء اورا دیدند با خود گفتند، بهتر این است که این زاهد خشک را دفع مزاحمت کنیم. عنصری گفت: ما شاعریم و مارا نشاید که دل بیازاریم. بهتر است که اورا به شعر امتحان کنیم، اگر تمام عیار آمد با او صحبت بداریم و اگر نه، عذر او بخواهیم. پس عنصری رو به فردوسی کرده گفت: برادر ما شاعرانیم و در مجلس شعرا جز شاعر نمی گنجد، هر یک مصراعی می گوییم، تو مصراع چهارم را بگو.

پس عنصری گفت: چون عارض تو ، ماه نباشد روشن مسجدی گفت: مانند رخت گل نبود در گلشن فرخی گفت: مژگانت همی گذر کند از جوشن سپس فردوسی گفت: مانند سنان گیو در جنگ پشن

عنصری با تعجب گفت: ای مرد زیبا گفتی، مگر ترا در تاریخ سلاطین احاطه ای است ؟ و به این ترتیب فردوسی نیز به جمه آنان پیوست.
