Description
English: Caton d'Utique lisant le Phédon avant de se donner la mort (Cato of Utica reading the Phaedo before committing suicide). Carrara marble, 1840. Commissioned in 1832, the work was unfinished at Roman's death. Rude carried it on and finished the sculpture in 1840.
Français : Caton d'Utique lisant le Phédon avant de se donner la mort, par Jean-Baptiste Roman (1792–1835) et François Rude (1784–1855). Marbre de Carrare, 1840. L'œuvre, commandée en 1832 et inachevée à la mort de Roman, fut terminée par Rude en 1840.
