Autrefois le cœur du Marocbattait sous les pas du Lion de l'Atlas et la grandeur du pays faisait écho à ses rugissements.

Ce magnifique animal qui est aujourd'hui un emblème pour le pays mais aussi un patrimoine mondial, a disparu de l’Afrique du Nord à l’état sauvage vers les années 30 ou 40 du siècle dernier.

Mais dans les années 60, quelques spécimens, descendants des lions offerts aux sultans de l’époque par les tribus en guise d’acte d’allégeance, ont été sauvés par la fauverie royale et le parc zoologique de Rabat abrite actuellement plus d'une vingtaine de lions de l'Atlas.

Un programme de conservation de l'espèce est en place depuis 2009 mais celui-ci se limite à la conservation en captivité.

Cette pétition est destinée aux autorités marocaines notamment au Haut commissariat aux eaux et forêts et à la lutte contre la désertification pour les convaincre de créer une réserve naturelle protégée dans les montagnes de l'Atlas où le Panthera leo leo (lion de l'Atlas) pourra être réintroduit et ou, libre et sauvage, il pourra saluer la force et l'indomptabilité du Maroc.
