Too many issues? Particulars omitted? edit

I am not enthusiastic about this merger. Quotability and quantity are both relevant to the quality of articles, but each is a large enough distinct topic for its own page. Actually combining everything in the original sources could result in an overly long page covering too many disparate issues. (Not to mention other issues that impact quality such as page layout, image use, etc., etc.)

However, the current draft combination seems to omit a considerable amount of material that has been stable for a long while, i.e., the whole is less than the sum of its parts. If a major part of the intent or effect of this proposal is to rescind portions of what has been generally agreed, then I do not approve of the process. Redaction and revision are distinct issues from combination, and need to be given due consideration.

On the other hand, an essay or help page addressing how these issues interrelate would be a good thing. A single page with an overview of all of the content guidelines might be very helpful for newcomers.

I do approve of adding a statement in WQ:LOQ like the one in this draft to the effect that the size limits are only upper bounds, and only material meeting WQ:Q should be included. Likewise, WQ:Q should also refer to WQ:LOQ. ~ Ningauble (talk) 18:00, 23 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

I completely agree with your proposal of a single overview page with links out to more detailed pages illustrating various policy points. Rather than merging WQ:LOQ with WQ:Q, we should maintain both of those pages (and make them official policy, for whatever that's worth), while using Viper's Quality and Quantity page as a baseline for the broad overview. This seems like a good overview, but I would rather that it did not replace long-accepted guidelines/policies. --User:Tryst (talk to me!) 20:43, 18 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
