Anthony DiPierro --> AnthonyEdit

Can you please leave a message on Anthony's talk page, and e-mail him if possible. Also, can you link from your user page on your home wiki. Thanks.--Poetlister 17:36, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

User Anthony renamed to Anthony (usurped). You may now create the account under SUL.--Poetlister 21:56, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Jeroenvrp --> JeroenEdit

I am user Jeroen on the Dutch Wikipedia. I like to use the User:Jeroen also over here (SUL).. There are only a few edits from User Jeroen in Oktober 2005. So hopefully it is possible to usurp User:Jeroen? Thanks in advance, --Jeroenvrp 16:07, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Please follow the instruction on the above. You claimed you contacted him on talk but his talk is still a "red link". The targeted

user should be notified. Thanks. --Aphaia 13:53, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Oh sorry, I thought the contact information was about how to contact me. I will complete the instructions. --Jeroenvrp 14:31, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
BTW: It is not needed to rename Jeroenvrp to Jeroen after the current user Jeroen is unsurped. Thanks in advance, --Jeroenvrp 14:32, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your notifications, since the contact happened on 14:39, 7 June 2008, this request won't be processed until 14:39, 28 June 2008. Thanks for your patience. --Aphaia 02:45, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Woody555 --> WoodyEdit

  • Your current user name: Woody555 (talk · contributions)
  • Target name: Woody (talk · contributions)
  • Contact: Talk: see Request here, no e-mail address specified.
    • This is an SUL request, see wikipedia:en:User:Woody/SUL for confirmation. Woody555 15:34, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Simeon87 --> SimeonEdit

Hello, I'm Simeon from nl.wiki (confirmation) and I'd like User:Simeon to be renamed to something else so Simeon can be used for a global account. I have notified the user on the talk page (the 'send mail' option isn't available when not logged in so I can't check that). Thanks in advance, Simeon 21:00, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

This is in the wrong format. You should create an account in another name and ask for a rename of your new account to Simeon. However, I have e-mailed Simeon on your behalf.--Poetlister 21:48, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, Poetlister. Request reformatted.
We need to consider if global account holders can request for usurpation as anon, when they confirm their request on their home wiki. Further discussion may happen on talk page --Aphaia 05:32, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
This is the first project that happens to have this procedure but okay, I've created Simeon87 and I'd like it to be renamed to Simeon. Thanks for e-mailing the user. - Simeon87 19:56, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
I've created the global account so moving the Simeon account out of the way should be enough. - Simeon87 00:44, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Aviavi --> AviaEdit

Hello, I am Avia from Vietnamese Wiki and I would like to usurp this name in Wikiquote. My confirmation is [1]. I have notified the user on his/her talk page (he/she has no email contact.) Thanks in advance. Aviavi 04:16, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

My name Avia is now in Global User List, so you will not be able to rename any account to Avia. Instead, please simply rename user:Avia to e.g user:Avia-unused. I will then have my account created by logging in as Avia. Aviavi 01:52, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Done.--Poetlister 22:04, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. Avia 03:45, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Jacklau96 --> JacklEdit

I am Jackl from en Wikipedia. I would like to usurp this account name, as I have the same name on the English Wikipedia (for the global account).

Confirmation: link --Jacklau96 09:35, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

I have had an e-mail from our present User:Jackl that says "i would still like to keep my user name at this time". I am afraid that we cannot usurp against the wishes of this user.--Poetlister 21:07, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
If it sure was his mail, the spirit of the policy agrees with you, Poetlister. How did you confirm that was our current Jackl, Poetlister, just out of curiosity? --Aphaia 06:01, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
I e-mailed him and he replied.--Poetlister 11:59, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Mohamed0 → MohamedEdit

This is my account on other projects. please rename user:Mohamed to user:Mohamed something else and then rename Mohamed0 to Mohamed. Thanks. proof.--Mohamed0 18:23, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Please follow the procedure explained above, and in particular notify the existing holder of that account. Thanks.--Poetlister 21:22, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Hope that is okay now Poetlister.--Mohamed0 11:05, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

That's fine, thanks; I will usurp after 21 days per our policy.--Poetlister 14:47, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Done.--Poetlister 19:32, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

User:Persian Poet Gal UsurpationEdit

For the record: Aphaia (Talk | contribs | block) has renamed User:Persian Poet Gal to "UsurpedImpostor20080701" (18 edits. Reason: per request by email).

English Wikiquote CU team had recently communications with Persian Poet Gal who has gently notified us inter-wiki vandalism. In our communications PPG was known to be impersonated and in recommendation of the other CU, and per request of the affected, I performed this usurpation. --Aphaia 22:26, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

  • Request left; no email address on file. FrankTemp 01:39, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
  • Is a three-week period really required for an account that has zero edits and no email address on file? FrankTemp 18:54, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
  • I'm afraid that's the policy we're working to at present. Please feel free to propose an amendment.--Poetlister 21:10, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
  • Well, I'm not sure that doing so would make me sound anything other than petulant, so I'll let it pass. My benchmarks are Wikipedia and several of the other projects, where I've gotten this taken care of in a week (most cases) or 10 days (only where one admin thought another was handling it). The policies elsewhere are 7 days, but there is no reason to assume that would (or should) apply here. I'll stick it out - thanks for your response. FrankTemp 01:04, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
  • Done; please check that the Frank account is linked to your SUL.--Poetlister 07:00, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Meloscn --> MelosEdit

  • Done, (e-mail + talk) --Meloscn 23:55, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
  • It's strange. This account was still mine but it was registered with an another password when i log in first time with sul. This procedure is not necessary, please stop it --Melos 00:17, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Hello guys, Melos, are you the original or the former Meloscn? I am afraid I am not sure what is going on, your reply will be welcome.
As for the procedure, I'm afraid there is nothing we the local bureaucrats help to stop it. It seems to have happened automatically (either usurpation automatically done or yet), so belong to the system and developers' thought. If you feel annoying, you are welcome to bug it on http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org I guess. --Aphaia 09:17, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

While we are not sure what happened, it seems to me that this request was challenged, hence no usurpation will be granted (as the rule says). If so, this request will be rejected. --Aphaia 21:39, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Samuella --> Samuel GrantEdit

I would like to get my account here on Wikiquote transferred to my global account Samuel Grant.

The account Samuel Grant seems to be created automatically (so it could be a global account). And there is no contact attempt on User talk:Samuel Grant, not as well you stated, so your statement on the above cannot be taken as said.

If both accounts belong to you, please sign in the wiki as User:Samuel Grant and say so, it would amend the three weeks our policy requires. Thanks, --Aphaia 09:24, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Verifying my identity... Samuel Grant 16:10, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Done. You may need to re-unite your global account.--Poetlister 20:34, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Rathne --> LeeEdit

  • Your current user name: Rathne (talk · contributions)

  • Reason : I'm Lee from Sinhala wikipedia. I would like to have my SUL login name as Lee. The current user Lee has no contributions on this wiki.

--Lee 10:04, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

While you said you contacted Lee on his talk (or it was what the "Contact" line should be read), no message was given on User talk:Lee. Please give the affected user notify for your request. Otherwise your request won't be proceeded. Thanks. --Aphaia 11:45, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
Oops! I thought it was for the way to contact me. Sorry my mistake. Just now I left a message for him in his talk page. By the way, since he hasn't done any edits, don't I get priority? --Lee 13:59, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. The local policy here is that we will usurp if "the affected party did no significant edits for which their history should be retained to comply with GFDL and at least three weeks pass from your message to the affected party without response."--Poetlister 05:44, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Done; without objection since August 7, this request was fulfilled. User:Lee is however out of SUL now, you have to combine with your global account again. Thanks. --Aphaia 11:28, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Joseph --> Joseph (usurped)Edit

Crum375 -> any name desiredEdit

  • Your current user name: None but this is on behalf of Crum375 (SUL)
  • Target name: Crum375 (talk · contributions)
  • Target was contacted: On Talk
    Fine, have your damned process. Random832 12:45, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
    • That's probably not a helpful way to phrase things. It's important to use process, as it increases accountability and makes it easier (from some time in the future) to determine what happened... I would note that it is clear from w:User_talk:Crum375#Crum375_on_enwikiquote that the "earlier" Crum375 (the one that is in SUL and has 9 accounts) desires this rename to happen, even if they are not willing to follow process. Hope that helps clarify things. ++Lar: t/c 16:59, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
  • Declined since it was submitted by a third party without verification it was done by his agent. This process was already abused by a fake request already, so it won't happen. --Aphaia 17:03, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
    • I would appeal that decline. It's clear that Crum375 WANTS this to happen, he is on his talk page on en saying so. That userid is SUL. This one isn't. Not seeing where in policy it's required that an "agent" do this, merely that it is clear that the request is legit. The missing piece, I thought, was that it hadn't been done in a way that was traceable. ++Lar: t/c 17:05, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
      • PS could you provide a link to the "fake request" ? Thanks. ++Lar: t/c 17:07, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
        • Lar, I gave a look to the link, but it is too huge to skim for me. Untraceable. You native may have a different understandings but you are not me at any rayte. For your sake I'd lift my earlier declination but I won't take an action for things it is unclear for me. --Aphaia 17:14, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
        • On the archive: we renamed an account but it was a fake so a steward later intervened (while we were here).
          • Thanks for lifting the decline. I'd ask another 'crat to take a look at that link. I think you'll find any number of native english speakers vouching for the fact that the SUL Crum375 is indeed, on his en:wp talk page, and elsewhere, stating he wants this account renamed. I'll try to root in the archives for the "fake request" you refer to... not sure what's up with that. ++Lar: t/c 17:22, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
            • PS, this diff: [4] is pretty short, and it clearly states Crum375 wants the rename to happen. ++Lar: t/c 17:29, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

As I understand it, there is evidence that the impersonation/harassment "Crum375" account on this wiki was created by Poetlister/Cato, who also previously refused the request for a rename. Poetlister/Cato under one account was until recently a checkuser on this wiki, and the real Crum375 has expressed reluctance to post here because of fear that this would give access to his IP information. Although Cato is no longer a checkuser, and thus Crum375's concern might appear moot, I would be reluctant to take the position that it is utterly baseless, and there is no bona fide dispute that he does not appreciate this situation in which an imposter has tied up his otherwise unified account. Although I have not discussed this situation with him and cannot speak for him in any way, he may also be dismayed that apparently Poetlister (renamed Quillercouch) remains a bureaucrat on this wiki. I believe strongly in local project discretion and that Wikiquote should handle the ramifications of the unfortunate situation that has developed here to the fullest extent possible. However, I note that there are only a limited number of bureaucrats on this project, and if none of them are able or willing to act on this request in view of the extraordinary circumstances, then Crum375 would be justified in asking that it be taken as a Steward/Office action. Newyorkbrad 23:58, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

  • I will not disclose the exact contents of my email discussions with enwp user Crum375, but it is clear that he asked previously for this account to be renamed (although he did ask out of process) and that he has no current plans to come here and ask in his own name because he does not trust the power structure of this wiki. I note that there are only 3 bureaucrats on this wiki, Aphaia, Kalki and Quillercouch. I also note that Cato, Yehudi and Quillercouch all retain their sysop and bureaucrat privileges and are unblocked, even as Aphaia herself has acknowledged receiving emails from this user admitting to the basic facts. I begin to wonder what more is needed before the stewards step in and take action, and not just the renaming of Crum375. As long as wikiquote is using servers and the Wikimedia Foundation name, it's autonomy is not a right but a privilege that must be earned and can be unearned. Respect for other wikis must run in both directions; if you insist on complete autonomy you have the right to fork the contents under the GFDL to your own website, but your autonomy is not a right that you may enjoy unfettered as long as you are using the Foundation's name and financial resources. Thatcher 02:05, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
    • As a sysop here, I have not involved myself in this matter (Crum375) for bureaucrats; but in the matter of Poetlister et al, I would like to say that I am waiting to see the results of the Meta deliberations. We have already introduced the notion of a vote of confidence concerning Poetlister/Cato/Yehudi. It would help me greatly in my decision to learn the Meta group's conclusions; then, I feel, I will be dealing with all the known facts. As of yet, neither Poelister, Cato nor Yehudi has made a public reply. The deadline for "them" is approaching over at Meta: by the time we vote here, we will likely know the outcome. - InvisibleSun 02:43, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
given the demonstrated fact that questionable checkusers can exist, it is absolutely ridiculous to insist that someone be required to edit each wiki where there is an impersonator squatting on their name. Random832 06:02, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
  • The statements from Lar and Thatcher are inconsistent. That is why I declined the first request: it may be confusable. I rather recommend the requester to lift it up. I don't want to pick up this inconsistency anymore unless the person in question come by himself. No third party request I haven't processed requests for account of wmf wiki unless they came from the Office, or the chapter on their behalf. I think it wise to apply for this wiki just as my personal criteria now.
  • Irrelevant though for your information: to InvisibleSun, his known meta accounts were blocked per request. So now he should respond here on WQ. To Thatcher, he is still allowed to edit not only WQ but also WS for giving explanation the community. He was blocked from meta per request but I would like to add FT2 strongly opposed to do it for having him explain on meta page. His blocking on meta is rather a compromise from the team to ensure him to give explanations to each affected community.
  • Today is the first day of three day weekend in my country and I have my schedule in real life with friends. Do not expect from me until Tuesday at my local time. Thanks.--07:29, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

@Aphaia (speaking just above this posting, the history will confirm it): I'm not sure how the statements from Thatcher and me are inconsistent, can you clarify? It is very clear to me that the requester is not likely to make the request themselves. They are very concerned about their information falling into the wrong hands. They have had it explained multiple times that making the request themselves is the most straightforward way, but they have declined. Given everything, I cannot say that I blame them. Per Newyorkbrad, I no longer consider this wiki "secure". That is no reflection on you, Aphaia, but a temporary removal of CU is not a final resolution of the issue. I have contacted Kalki to ask that they take a look at this as well, but I really think that this request should be granted, without further drama, and this episode put behind Wikiquote so that it no longer distracts from what are, ultimately, more important matters. Letting it fester gives ammunition to those who wish to disparage Wikiquote in general, and english Wikiquote in particular. I'd also note that the calls for Steward intervention in this matter (which I disagree with, this is an internal wq affair) are increasing. ++Lar: t/c 13:57, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Please note this diff where Cato acknowledges having been behind the creation of this account. WJBscribe (talk) 00:55, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Yes, but he didn't admit it through the specific formal process prescribed on Wikiquote, so it's as if it never happened. Jayjg 01:56, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Being snarky, however fun it might be, just isn't going to help matters much. Why do you persist? Why is it impossible to just ask politely? ++Lar: t/c 12:10, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Given this revelation and abusive behavior to disrupt multiple projects to get "back" at SlimVirgin and the real Crum for en.wp conflicts, I move a Steward just do this if a local is unable to. rootology (T) 02:28, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

If all three of the bureaucrats, (and I include Poetlister in there... how better to show some remorse than by cleaning up the mess made??? it would be a fitting final act, in my view, to undo this and name one of Poetlister's own socks to something else so Crum375, the real one, can reclaim their rightful ID) given this new information, refuse to act, after a reasonable amount of time to let them assimilate it and deal with real life matters, then perhaps. But again, Stewards do not, by policy, interfere with local projects. This needs to be done. It should be done. I fail to understand why it hasn't been done by now. But it is not a pressing need. Not an emergency yet. Let us abide. ++Lar: t/c 12:10, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
  • Poetlister has stated on Wikisource here that he operates the Crum375 account. I see no reason why it shouldn't be renamed as it is obviously therefore a bad faith account. I also agree with Thatcher. This is nothing short of ridiculous. Naerii 18:52, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

I asked Poetlister that this rename be carried out, since Kalki is not answering mails, and Aphaia has declined and said it may be a while before it could be looked at again... and I received an email from Poetlister today indicating that this rename has been performed by him. See [5] which contains the entry :

17:01, 14 September 2008 Quillercouch (Talk | contribs | block) has renamed Crum375 to "Scotsman" ‎ (73 edits. Reason:)

I'd say this matter can be closed. ++Lar: t/c 00:51, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
