Custom tables of contents edit

Ah, I didn't realize that you were building a cutom TOC for Gilmore Girls. Sorry about reverting your removal of the episode number. It looks good, and was probably needed. ~ UDScott 20:41, 7 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your creation of custom tables of contents, but please consider that, if you do so, you take the responsibility to verify that every single link in the table works, as most wiki editors will not have the skill to fix the inevitable problems. (I started this custom-TOC craze at Wikiquote, and I can assure you that none ever fail to have link problems when initially created. It's the nature of the beast.) I note that currently both your Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars TOCs have at least one link that is not working ("We’ve Got Magic to Do" and "Ain’t No Magic Mountain High Enough", respectively, probably because of inconsistent use of different apostrophes — Wikiquote's standard is the "straight" apostrophe that all keyboards have). Please fix these and thoroughly test all future TOCs before implementing them.
It is also controversial to create TOCs for ongoing shows, as they require frequent editing. Even registered users often move on to other things, forcing others to tackle the chore of intricate table/internal link editing, and you are editing from an IP address, which will be all the more confusing if someone else inherits this address. At the very least, I would ask that you register a username. You need not reveal any personal information — even the requested email address is completely optional. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 17:43, 17 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Okay, so you fixed the two links I took the trouble to identify. My point was that you need to do the testing if you're going to implement these tables. I identified the likely reason, but you failed to check the remainder of the tables for the same problem. There are many more instances of such broken links. Even if you fix all of the apostrophe problems, that doesn't guarantee there aren't other problems. As I said before, if you implement custom TOCs, you must check every single link in the table. If you can't be troubled to do this, you have no business creating such a complex wiki construction. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 17:41, 19 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
