I made a slight correction to the quote about "the United States are/is", then later tried to find the definitive quote to check everything for correctness. Turns out there is no definitive printed quote because it comes from a Ken Burns' interview, so I watched the interview several times, transcribed his words, and intend to change the quote again to come into conformance with his exact words (e.g.: "...without being self-conscious." >> "...without being self-conscious at all"). Being an audio quote with no definitive punctuation, I've modified it as seems reasonable.
