Untrustworthy Source edit

The following quote is not from a trustworthy source and cannot be found in any of Oswald Spengler's lectures, letters, or other writings, either in English or in German. I have removed it until a proper source can be found:

  • This is our purpose: to make as meaningful as possible this life that has been bestowed upon us; to live in such a way that we may be proud of ourselves; to act in such a way that some part of us lives on.
    • quoted in "Wisdom from World Religions: Pathways Toward Heaven on Earth" - Page 110 by John Templeton, John Marks Templeton - Religion - 2002

The first mention of this quote was from 1967 book called Aphorisms by Oswald Spengler. 208.124.113.16 14:01, 13 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Unsourced Quote Not Spengler edit

The unsourced quote "What we need is not freedom of the press, we need freedom FROM the press" is not Spengler, but words he is putting in someone else's mouth. The full quotation is: "To-day a democrat of the old school would demand, not freedom for the press, but freedom from the press; but mean-time the leaders have changed themselves into parvenus who have to secure their position vis-a-vis the masses." This is found in a footnote on p. 461 of the English translation. The quote should be removed, and I have therefore removed it. 184.8.136.38 07:59, 27 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for this information. The full and proper quote you provided above has now been added to the article, with note made of the extreme form of misquotation to which a portion of it has been applied. ~ Kalki (talk · contributions) 09:33, 15 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Inaccurate Quotation edit

The 2nd quote in the "Unsourced" section (referencing "Negro dances") was almost completely fabricated and taken out of context. I have replaced it with a sourced, correct quote.

This quote was cited improperly; it does not come from Decline at all, but from Hour of Decision, page 95. 99.126.242.5 09:02, 11 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
