If there are no objections, I will go ahead and insert them. I will leave instances of quotes emanating solely from images in the show (such as "Worthington's Law: More Money = Better Than") blank, since no one explicitly speaks them. Eganio 02:45, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

OK, someone please fill in any blanks they can on the speakers. My DVDs are deteriorating, and are practically unwatchable, so I can't refer to the commentary anymore. In particular the three kids that were on the show (young Josh Fenderman, doing the Frankie P. Cheezewinkle's commercial; young Bob in "What's a gagortion?"; and the "Please Don't Kill Me" kid) need to be referenced. Ghost of Gene Wilder???

Where does the ghost of Gene Wilder quote come from? I know every episode from every season backwards and forwards, and do not recall anything at all similar to it. Is it from something attached to the show? Please let me know, as I'd like to see it! Eganio 02:38, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

75.132.23.16 05:28, 29 October 2007 (UTC) --This is from a "Best Of" clip show, done between Seasons Three and Four (I believe). It's done in the style of a faux news broadcast, linking clips together from Season Three called "The Best of Mr. Show: The Incredible, Fantastical News Report." In one instance, the male anchor says the line about Gene Wilder's ghost ("Gene Wilder attempted to reach us, but we didn't accept the charges..." great line). It's on the DVD of either Season Three of Four (I honestly don't remember) as a bonus feature.

Arrangement

I have looked at the pages for very well-known shows, such as "Seinfeld" and "Friends", and they have quotes organized by season and show, so I think I will go ahead and do the same in order to "conform to a higher standard of article quality", as mentioned at the top of the main page. I figure that enough people have contributed to those pages, that they have been organized appropriately, and likely provide a reasonable guide for this page. Eganio 05:53, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Cleanup tag

I've restored the cleanup tag - although there has been considerable cleanup to this page, there is still some work needed. Fill in the blanks...please!

So, I have tried to clean this page up as much as possible. Unfortunately, as you likely have already noticed, there are places where I put "Unknown speaker" or "Announcer", etc. My DVDs are so worn out, that they are virtually unwatchable, so I had to do all of this from memory. So, if anyone has the DVDs, please watch with commentary, or try to peruse the credits, and fill in those parts where a specific actor is not listed:

1.2 - who the hell does Pit-Pat's voice? I don't recall.

Something sticking in my craw

Like the Mr. Show Crackerbarrel line indicates, something is bothering me: should we use character names instead of cast member names for speaker reference? It might be difficult with some, since finding out the character's name might prove to be difficult. Futhermore, since this is a sketch comedy with only one re-occurring sketch (Ronnie Dobbs) and only a few instances of re-appearing side characters (Droopy and Senator Howell Tankerbell each appeared a total of 3 times, while Dylan, T.T.O.M.O., Blueberry Head, Fancy Pants, and Fervel Lankman each appear twice), the number of different character is immense. As you say, it may be difficult, but I think it would be better to have the character names rather than the actors' names for the quotes. That is the usual practice with TV shows. ~ UDScott 13:20, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I'm going to reverse myself here. Since it is a sketch-comedy show, I think it would be ok to leave the actors' names rather than the characters they played. Or maybe you could list both? I'm not sure which way to go here, since sometimes the character name (if known) is funny in and of itself. ~ UDScott 13:21, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Well, I agree with you that the guidelines do indicate character when referencing the quote's speaker, but this seems to only work for situational comedies, where core characters rarely, if ever, change. In the case of sketch comedies, it's much harder to make that distinction. Sketch comedies often do have several re-occurring sketches and characters (e.g. Mr. Show, In Living Color, SNL, Mad TV, etc.), but are comprised mainly of pseudo-real life situations where mention of a character's name becomes inconsequential in the context of a comedic representation of "every day life" for everyman, rather than a specific character. Is that more or less what you were referring to? If so, I am in complete agreement, and would venture that it might be best to put it in a format like this:

Character name or short description (actor): Blah, blah, blah.

Well, I am just going to go ahead and do it the way that was proposed by UDScott and me, and list both character and actor. I will do my damnedest to find obscure character names, but I will definitely need assistance. I will put in a short description of the character for instances where I think it's appropriate, but please change anything you see that is unnecessary or wrong, and add anything you feel is necessary. Cast

Thanks for adding the "Cast" heading, whoever that was (I'm assuming it was UDScott, since no one else seems to be on here). So, should we include "Featured Cast" and "Frequent Collaborators", since many quotes come from non-main cast? And should we keep Jay Johnston under main cast, even though he was officially main cast only for the very last episode? I do like how you did it...I was just wondering if you think it's necessary to add frequently (i.e. more than once) seen people like Jack Black, Sarah Silverman, Brian Posehn, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Paul F. Tompkins, Jerry Minor, Karen Kilgariff, Brett Paesel, Becky Thyre, Dino Stamatopoulos, Scott Aukerman, B J Porter, Scott Adsit, Sam Sarpong, Freez Luv, etc. Eganio 00:58, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

We had a discussion about this at one time, and the consensus was to just list the main cast on a tv show. It's ok to still have quotes form the others (and list their names there), but for the cast section, just list the main players. I wouldn't be opposed to adding some of the prominent names you mentioned (assuming they were more on more than just a few episodes) to the list already started. ~ UDScott 16:02, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

I actually don't think it's necessary to add any of them, since it would be an effort in futility to try and determine who appeared more often than another, IMO. Synopsis at top

I changed "featuring" to "hosted by", because I think Bob and David are better categorized as the hosts of the show, while all other actors are "featured" as playing characters. Bob and David play "themselves" at the beginning of every episode, and therefore merit a more global categorization like host, IMO. Eganio 01:23, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Almost there

OK, I have added the character names, and where appropriate, tried to include a brief descirption. I put actor names in parentheses, and left "unknown" for those I still haven't figured out (listed above). So, please look it over, if you would be so kind, and see where there are holes to be filled, or words to be changed, etc. Also, the last four episodes of season 4 I just gave up on, because my DVD is FUBAR, and I was getting very frustrated, after having done all three other seasons from barely watchable DVDs...grrrrrrr.
