Lois Lane: "Welcome to the Planet." edit

Obviously, this quote has two meanings: (1) "Welcome to planet Earth", and (2) "Welcome to The Daily Planet." In the first meaning, she's surreptitiously speaking one-on-one to Clark Kent, acknowledging what they both already know, that he is an alien known to most as Superman. In the second meaning, she's speaking publicly and truncating the name The Daily Planet simply to Planet in much the same way as one might say "Welcome to the Sun" when working at The Baltimore Sun.

This issue I take with this quote is not its inclusion. This quote is definitely worth including in this list. Rather, my issue is with its lack of italicisation. Titles of newspapers, even when truncated to Sun or Planet, are supposed to be italicised. I believe this title should, likewise, be italicised.

The only reason I am bringing this up is that some might argue it ought not be italicised on the grounds that it does have a second meaning. What do you think?

I've italicized it, as it seems obvious that the formal meaning was referring to the offices of the Planet, and informal reference was being extended to the planet Earth as a whole. ~ ♞☤☮♌Kalki·†·⚓⊙☳☶⚡ 22:34, 21 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
