Is it really necessary to put lyrics on a quotes page?

It's not "really necessary" to do put much of anything on a quotes page, but lines from a songwriter's lyrics are often among the most quoted and quotable of the statements that they make. Extensive passages of some songs have been permitted here, but the full lyrics of modern songs are not, as potential violations of the fair use provisions of copyright law, such as permit most quotations from modern sources. ~ Rumour 17:44, 7 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've moved the quotes to a separate U2 page, because a) I think that's where people are most likely to look for U2 lyrics, and b) this page is rather large. Hopefully no one has a problem with this. Whichwould 21:06, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Accuracy check needed; U2 article edit

I've just done some major cleanup of this article, including removing some copyright-violating transcriptions of entire or near-entire works, but one thing I didn't address is the accuracy of the implicit claim that Bono wrote all of these lyrics. All Music Guide claims that Christy Moore, not Bono, wrote "North and South of the River" [1], so I know there's at least one problem to resolve.

It might be better to transfer the U2 songs to a U2 article. Wikiquote's typical source practice for song lyrics expects them to be listed in an article by the person or group performing them (which is the way they tend to be most commonly known; here, it makes it look like these were solo efforts by Bono. (Lyricists certainly should be credited for lyrics, but I don't think we've hashed out a good way to do this yet.) ~ Jeff Q (talk) 11:07, 16 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

The quote about "hatred towards gays" is as far as I can tell completely inauthentic and seems to be currently getting "planted" various places without any info to back it up. I removed it recently for that reason, but it has now been restored as "unsourced." Without any supporting data, this looks too much like an attempt to invent an endorsement from Bono for one side of a hot potato issue. If someone has a source, please cite it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.30.66.156 (talkcontribs) 14:26, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Bono hobnobbed with numerous people who have flown on the Jeffery Epstein’s “Lolita Express”. He is good friends with the likes of Bill Gates, Jeffery Sachs, to name and a fixture of the globalist World Economic Forum.
