Talk:Advertising slogans

Return to "Advertising slogans" page.

Initial suggestionEdit

I suggest this idea on the main page a while back:

"Slogans I had the idea of also addng slogans to Wikiquote eg: Coca-Cola:

  • "Always Coca-Cola"
    • Date: 19whenever - whenever
    • Countries: United Kingdom, other1, other 2
    • Notes: maybe brief history of the slogan

Although will we face copyright problems with some slogans? -fonzy"

We will have to have a countries section. becuase differnt slogans are used in different countries.

It would also be nice too organise it by company.

Why is "this seems to be irrelevant" written at the end of the food and beverages section? Should that be removed?

I just removed it, and updated the wikipedia links on the page. Thanks for pointing that out. ~ Kalki 21:19, 10 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Isn't the Kit-Kat "Give Me A Break" song a jingle, not a slogan?

  • It seems that this article has been copied from wikipedia and thus all it's coding is meant for wikipedia - making it appear incomplete (with it's massive RED words) on wikiquote. I've gone through and at least changed the dates to point to wikipedia and not wikiquote...Should we redirect all the links from q: and into w:? I wanted to get an opinion on what the proper procedure would be here; after all, I see no point linking majority of these red empty links to wikiquote and would rather see them be linked to wikipedia - I would also suggest removing some of the links (keeping company name). ~ RoboAction 07:11, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
I agree the links for all the companies should go to Wikipedia, and not to Wikiquote and went ahead and did the tweaking. ~ Achilles 09:17, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Great work cleaning that up! Thanks. Quadell 19:17, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Non-English slogansEdit

I've removed most (I may have missed a few) of the non-English slogans, in those cases where the slogan wasn't intentionally in a foreign language in an English-speaking country (to the best of my knowledge). —LrdChaos 20:54, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

M•A•C {editorial comment}Edit

M•A•C's Advertising slogans should read "All ages, all races, all sexes" (I Think) why is there an editorial comment in it -- "All ages, all races{editorial comment}, all sexes" unless someone can show that it belong there it needs to be remove--Lookatthis 16:02, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

    • Vandalism has been remove thanks.--Lookatthis 18:26, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Cleaning out unsourced in 72 hoursEdit

In 72 hours, I will delete all quotes in Advertising slogans which are not properly sourced to a printed publication other than one produced by the advertiser itself. Cheers! BD2412 T 19:59, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

  • I believe the term "Advertising Slogans" refers to the slogans the "Advertisers" use. So if Burger King uses the slogan: "have it your way", but another "printed publication say's otherwise, then you assume Burger King which created the slogan must be wrong? —This unsigned comment is by (talkcontribs) .
    • There are two issues at stake. First, not every slogan is a "have it your way". Some previously listed entries claimed as slogans were not so quickly recognizable. Second, the vast majority of slogans are not quoteworthy. Say we have Joe's Pizza, and their slogan is "Joe's Pizza is the best!" That's neither notable nor particularly original, so it is not worth including here. Every advertiser will promote its own slogan, but to determine whether a slogan is notable and quotable, the test is whether someone unrelated to the advertiser has noted and quoted it. I'm going to alphabetize these, since putting them in chronological order would require better information about their dates of use. BD2412 T 21:28, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

adidas slogan `adidas is all in'Edit

The slogan `adidas is all in' is totally meaningless. Has no one noticed that, if anything at all, it means `adidas is completely exhausted, finished, washed up'?!
